Palin's Kid: WTF?

Okay, so there were some rumors going around that Palin's child, the one with Down's Syndrome was not her own. There's some anecdotal suggestions of why this is the case related to her traveling when she was theoretically in labor, etc. It's all a lot of hearsay stuff, and probably bunk... probably.

See here's the odd part of this story. Andrew Sullivan brought this up a while back when she first was nominated VP. He asked the question about it and didn't get any good answers. He had no evidence one way or the other, so, publicly, he let it fizzle out. But in the mean time he was doing what a good journalist does, trying to get some answers. His presumption was that it should be relatively easy to debunk this story because there would be scads of medical records proving it.

So, he sent e-mails to the McCain campaign to ask them as follows:

"I'm very sorry to say, it's come to this: can you confirm on the record that Trig Palin is Sarah Palin's biological son? . . . Since this is a crazy idea, it should be easy for you or someone to let me know, the most popular one-man political blog site in the world, what the truth is."

And:

""I asked a simple question akin to asking whether you can confirm that the sky is blue. Here's the question in case it got lost: can you confirm on the record that Trig Palin is Sarah Palin's biological son? Can I please get a response of some sort, even if it is that you will not respond?"'

He received no response.  Then, apparently the McCain campaign released his e-mails to Howard Kurtz at the times, to feed into an article about how ridiculous these questions were.

Okay, so maybe the questions are ridiculous.  However, if they ARE ridiculous, how come they can't answer them.  How come, in response to the questions they pass those questions along to a third party to write an article condemning the questions.  How come we still do not have Palin's medical records (and yes, we should get Biden's too for the record)?

McCain's campaign has said they'd release her records after the election.  Ummm, why?  We don't give a shit AFTER the election.  She'll be in office then and that information will be meaningless.  If there's anything in there that should be of concern to us we need to know BEFORE the election.

In the end, you might thin, "why does this matter?"  Who cares if her kid was an adopted space alien or whatever?  The reason it matters is because she's built up this image and story around her being a mother of a down's syndrome child.  She talks about choosing not to get an abortion, and all of that sort of thing.  So this is a fundamental structural piece of her overall character.  If it turns out that it's a big lie, as with so much of the rest of her background, that does say a lot about her, non?

I mean personally I'm more concerned that she apparently had no interest in the rest of the United States until she became VP.  That she's apparently so prone to a flub that they don't dare risk public appearances of her that aren't wholly scripted.  That really worries me.  Relatively speaking, this is small potatoes, but this does seem a might bit suspicious, non?
