COLBERT: Wait a second, we cannot allow dictators to kill their own people. That’s a very simple statement sir, which I support wholeheartedly. Back it up!
KRISTOL: I’m with you.
COLBERT: Who do we go after next? Iran? Come on!
KRISTOL: I think we may have to take military action against…
COLBERT: Let’s get some boots on the ground, sir!
KRISTOL: I wish…we may have to do that. We have to do that in the Sudan.
While I do not agree with Kristol's world view I will at least give him credit for being intellectually consistent if a bit naive. Many of the people who talked about taking Saddam out on the grounds that he's a brutal dictator are also ignoring things like Darfur. But Kristol is sitting here honestly saying that Sudan might be a place we'll have to send troops. I think he's a little too willing to bring out the guns, but I'll give him credit for being consistent.
