From an amicus brief filed in the court case over Proposition 8:
I think if they were filing as a friend of my court, I'd get a restraining order :)
Courts throughout the entire State of California, the United States of America, as well as world courts DO NOT have authority to reverse the Almighty Eternal Creator's Law that bans same-sex marriage...Gay and lesbian marriage and abortion are serious attempts to destroy the Almighty Eternal Creator's ongoing creation of human life on earth! If they do not change their sexual conduct and pay in full for damages caused while they are on earth, they surely must pay after their earthly lives!
I think if they were filing as a friend of my court, I'd get a restraining order :)
Today was a set back in California with proposition 8 eliminating the marriage rights that were rightfully given to gay couples. However, I'm taking the long view here and it's worth considering a few things:
- A number of people had been deliberately confused about the nature of the proposition. I suspect that the majority of Californians support gay marriage in spite of what this proposition said. That's a major improvement in a pretty short period of time. I think getting a small taste of what it really means has convince a lot of people that it's not so bad.
- While it only requires a simple majority to amend the California constitution (DUMB!) it also only requires a simple majority to unamend it. I believe there will be broad support for this in the next election.
- Gay marriage will happen. It is only a matter of time. It was close enough this time that some shenanigans could derail this, but in another 2, maybe 4 years, I don't see that being the case. People will keep seeing Ellen on TV, and it will slowly begin to sink in that her being married isn't a terrible thing.
